Episode Notes
Having recapped the year in RPGs, it’s time to talk about everything else that happened in video games in 2021. And a lot happened! Not all of it good! Eric, Nadia, and Kat are joined by IGN’s Rebekah Valentine and The Verge’s Ash Parrish to look back on games like Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, Inscryption, and Chicory, plus all the trends from the first full of year of next-gen consoles to (sigh) NFTs. We finish by picking our individual Game of the Years, and it’s a pretty diverse slate! 2021 may not have been the greatest year for tentpole releases, but a lot of great games were released nonetheless. And yes, we do talk about Final Fantasy XIV, because it’s unavoidable at this point. Thank you again for supporting Axe of the Blood God, and please enjoy this Patreon-exclusive episode. We’ll be gone next Monday, but as a special holiday gift, we’ll be releasing the Final Fantasy VIII Pantheon episode to the free feed. When we get back, you can look forward to our 2021 RPG Preview plus lots of big announcements for the Patreons.
